Bend & Stretch Class

Movement and exercise are important at every age. Our Bend & Stretch class was developed upon the request of the community and structured to meet the needs of our community members. All ages are welcome to participate. The classes are held during the day and focus on instruction on how to safely maintain balance, continue moving, and exercise well at any age.

Bend & Stretch Classes are held in six-week sessions.  Classes are free.

Classes include:

  • Two Nationally approved screening measurements (TUG and Fall Reach);
  • Information sessions, including packets or booklets about fall risk;
  • Exercise sessions with and without chair assistance;
  • Fun and inspiring music that everyone can groove to, such as Jazz, down-home Dixieland, and Elvis;
  • Exercises adjusted for the limitations and abilities of the participants, including use of canes, rollators, and other assistive devices;
  • An end-of-session reevaluation of fall risk and an assessment of improvement after completing the course.

Through this 6 week program, you receive the benefits of regular exercise including improved balance, increased core strength, oxygenation, and lymph circulation. Participants also notice an improved sense of overall well-being as a result of the fun and social interaction during the classes.

This program gives priority to residents of the sponsoring town, but non-residents are welcome to attend if there is space available. Classes are limited to 15 participants.
