Hospice Volunteers

Our hospice volunteers are compassionate individuals dedicated to providing support and care to patients at the end of life and to grieving families.  Our hospice volunteers have a meaningful impact on the patients they care for, and the families that they serve.

Comprehensive training is provided to new volunteers and the volunteers can take advantage of on-going support offered by the hospice staff and at monthly meetings and periodic workshops. Volunteers are needed to visit day and evening hours during the week and on weekends.

Hospice volunteers play an indispensable role in enabling hospice to offer the best care possible for patients living with life-limiting illness, their families, and caregivers. By sharing their time, energy, and expertise, our volunteers bring compassion and caring to the lives of those in need.

As a volunteer you could:

  • Be there to hold a hand, and listen;
  • Take a patient to their favorite place or park;
  • Read to a patient, or help them write a letter;
  • Assist with errands, such as walking a dog, or grocery shopping;
  • Provide respite for family.

Thrift Store

Our thrift store is located in New Preston, CT and is run by a group of dedicated volunteers. All proceeds directly benefit the patients of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County. Duties include sorting and tagging merchandise and assisting customers.

Other volunteer opportunities include:

  • Serving as a member of the Agency’s Board of Directors;
  • Helping to plan, promote and participate in special events and fundraisers;
  • Delivering food and gifts to patients during the holidays;
  • Volunteering at immunization clinics;
  • Assisting with general office duties.
